Jasrana, Sonipat
Jasrana is a village in Gohana tehsil, Sonipat district, Haryana. It was settled by Kaliraman Jats in 1126 AD, and later Malik Jats from Ahulana and Rewara joined the village. The two panas (parts) of the village are Nirdai (Kaliraman) and Ahulana (Malik). Jats make up about 70% of the population, with many other castes living here. The history of Jasrana is told by Bhats.
The village is about 27 km from both the tehsil headquarters in Gohana and the district headquarters in Sonipat. It is surrounded by the villages Gumana, Farmana Majra and Gorar (all in Sonipat), and Mungan and Polangi (in Rohtak). As of 2009, Jasrana is a gram panchayat, and the current sarpanch is Bhola Malik.
Jasrana covers 792 hectares (about 7,828 bighas) and has around 748 houses. The population was 3,836 (2,106 males and 1,730 females). In 2023, it was estimated to be about 4,680 people in around 800 houses.
The village has a Government Senior Secondary School (classes 6–12) and a Government Primary School (classes 1–5). There are several temples and trusts, including Shiv Mandir, Arya Samaj Trust, Shiv Hanuman Mandir, Dada Ghinke Mandir, and Malu ala Khatu Shyam Mandir, as well as a Government Ayurvedic Hospital.
Notable people from Jasrana include wrestler Bhuru Kaliraman, Asian bronze-medalist boxer Rajat Kaliraman, and shooter Aditi Kaliraman. IAS Balbir Singh Malik, Arya Samaj poet Kunwar Jauhari Singh Arya (Malik), former MLA and freedom fighter Nanhuram Malik are also from the village.
There is an irrigation canal at the edge of the village called Jasrana Minor.
