Mangalasutram (film)
Mangalasutram (Wedding Chain) is a 1966 Indian Telugu-language drama film produced and directed by A. K. Velan under Arunachalam Studios. It stars N. T. Rama Rao and Devika, with music by T. Chalapathi Rao.
Plot:
Joga Rao, a respected advocate, lives with his wife Parvati and their two sons, Raju and Shankar. Raju falls in love with Shanta in their village. Parvati wants him to marry a simpler girl instead of her refined niece Kamala, so she goes to the village to push the Shanta alliance. Raju refuses and asks his father for help. Joga Rao schemes to derail the wedding and instead plans Shankar’s marriage. Hearing this, Shankar reveals his own love for Bala. On the wedding day, rumours cause chaos and the ceremony breaks down. Shanta’s father pleads, and Shanta’s stepmother creates trouble, so Joga Rao arranges Shanta’s marriage to the electrical engineer he has raised. Shanta learns of the plan, faints, and attempts suicide, but the groom protects her and says she will be united with Raju. The engineer then dies in a work-related electrical accident. The rest of the story follows whether Raju returns to unite Shanta and what happens next.
