Mafia (1993 film)
Mafia is a 1993 Malayalam-language action thriller directed by Shaji Kailas and written by Renji Panicker. It stars Suresh Gopi as Ravishankar, Vikram as Harishankar, Tiger Prabhakar as Surya Devaraja Gowda, Babu Antony as Chandra Gowda, Vijayaraghavan as Shivappa, and Janardhanan as DYSP Jayashankar. The film was released on 13 November 1993 (Diwali) and became a box-office success.
Plot
DYSP Jayashankar, a sincere Bangalore City Police officer, fights the crime boss Gowda who rules the city with his younger brother Chandra. Jayashankar hopes his brother Ravishankar will join the IPS. Ravishankar works for a daily newspaper and is also pursuing IPS. When Gowda’s shipment arrives, Jayashankar is killed during a raid. Ravishankar is later jailed for assaulting a senior officer and loses his chance at IPS. After his release, he vows to avenge his brother’s death. He teams up with Sandra, the daughter of a former mafioso, and with Shivappa, a retired mafia leader, to take on Gowda. Govindan, Gowda’s ally, becomes city commissioner but is publicly humiliated by Ravishankar, leading to his suspension. Ravishankar targets Gowda’s warehouses, forcing Gowda to strike back. Chandra is killed by Ravishankar. Gowda kidnaps Hari, Ravishankar’s ally, prompting a final showdown in which Ravishankar rescues Hari and kills Gowda by running him over with cars. The film ends with Ravishankar’s victory.
