MDGA2

MDGA2 stands for MAM domain containing glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor 2. It is a human protein-coding gene, previously called MAMDC1.

Location and structure:
- Located on chromosome 14 (14q21.2).
- The gene has multiple variants and encodes a membrane-anchored protein via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor.

Homology and expression:
- MDGA2 has homologues in rat and mouse, named Mdga2.
- In rodents, Mdga2 is expressed in the central and peripheral nervous system, including neurons in regions such as the basilar pons and cerebral cortex.

Identifiers:
- NCBI gene: 161357
- HGNC: 19835
- OMIM: 611128
- RefSeq: NM_182830

Genetic associations:
- Some studies linked MDGA2 variants with neuroticism in genome-wide analyses, but later research did not consistently replicate this finding.
