Mac Críodáin is a Gaelic-Irish surname, anglicised Creedon. It began in medieval Munster, especially in Thomond, Ormond and Desmond (today parts of Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford and Cork). In the 1500s two musicians, Thady Credan of Drangan, Tipperary, and William MacCruddan, were pardoned in government records from 1565–1586. Notable bearers include broadcaster John Creedon (RTÉ Radio); John J. Creedon, CEO of Metropolitan Life Insurance; and Dave Creedon (1919–2007), an Irish sportsperson.
