MTMR12
MTMR12, or myotubularin-related protein 12, is a human gene that makes a protein involved in lipid signaling inside cells. The MTMR12 protein acts as an adaptor in a complex with an active phosphatase that removes a phosphate from phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate (PtdIns(3)P), helping regulate this signaling pathway. There are different versions of the MTMR12 protein produced by alternative splicing. In humans, MTMR12 is located on chromosome 5 at band 5p13.3; in mice, the equivalent gene is on chromosome 15. The MTMR12 protein is found in various parts of the cell, including the cytosol and other membrane-related areas, reflecting its role in cellular signaling.
