Luther Wright and the Wrongs
Luther Wright and the Wrongs are a Canadian alt-country and bluegrass band from Kingston, Ontario. The group started in 1998 as Luther Wright’s side project while he was in Weeping Tile. After Weeping Tile parted ways, the Wrongs became Wright’s main band. The original lineup included Luther Wright, Cam Giroux (drums), Sean Kelly (bass), Brian Flynn (fiddle), Dan Curtis (electric guitar), and Olesh Maximew (pedal steel), with many players joining and leaving over the years. They often performed with guests like Sarah Harmer, Jason Mercer, and Chris Brown, and Burke Carroll joined on pedal steel in 2001, followed by fiddler Megan Palmer and other contributors.
The Wrongs have released several albums and built a strong regional reputation. Their early records include Hurtin’ for Certain and Roger’s Waltz. Their best-known project is Rebuild the Wall (2001), a track-by-track bluegrass reimagining of Pink Floyd’s The Wall, which led to a North American tour performing the version alongside their own material. They released Guitar Pickin’ Martyrs (2003), Instrumentality (2006), and contributed two tracks to the Steve Goodman tribute album My Old Man (2006). Man of Your Dreams came out in 2008 on Snakeye Muzak, and Hearts and Lonely Hunters followed in 2015 on Wolfe Island Records.
The band has also recorded two children’s albums under the name Butterfingers. Luther Wright continues to make music and produce for Kingston-area artists, including Rueben de Groot, Emily Fennell, Dan & Jenny Whiteley with Riley Bagus, and Rusty Ford.
