Lui Tuck Yew
Lui Tuck Yew (born 16 August 1961) is a Singaporean diplomat and former politician. Since May 30, 2023, he has been Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States.
Earlier, he served as Singapore’s ambassador to China from 2019 to 2023, and as ambassador to Japan from 2017 to 2019.
As a member of the People’s Action Party, Lui was a Member of Parliament from 2006 to 2015, representing Tanjong Pagar GRC (2006–2011) and later Moulmein–Kallang GRC (2011–2015). In the cabinet, he was Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts from 2010 to 2011, Minister for Transport from 2011 to 2015, and briefly Second Minister for Defence in 2015. He retired from politics in August 2015.
Prior to politics, Lui served in the Singapore Navy and became Chief of Navy from 1999 to 2003. He then held civil service roles, including chief executive of the Maritime and Port Authority and later the Housing Development Board, while also serving as Deputy Secretary (Land) at the Ministry of Transport.
Education and family: Lui attended Anglo-Chinese School and Trinity College, Cambridge (BA in Natural Sciences, 1983), and earned an MA in International Relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in 1994. He is married to Soo Fen and they have two children.
