Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 6
Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 6 is a four-disc DVD box set of classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons. It was released in the United States on October 21, 2008 and is the last volume in the Golden Collection series.
The release almost got canceled after Volume 5’s weak sales, but Warner Bros. allowed it to go forward. Many of the shorts were ones that had been planned for future volumes, and the set includes material from those projects.
This volume is more adult-oriented than earlier ones. Each disc carries a warning about content that might not be considered politically correct today, and the shorts are shown uncut for historical reasons, meant for adult collectors. It also features many World War II cartoons, including depictions or references to Hitler, Tojo, Nazi Germany, and Imperial Japan. Disc 2, titled “Patriotic Pals,” is devoted to WWII-themed cartoons and related bonus shorts.
Originally, Volume 6 was released only in North America because of poor sales, but the discs are region-free, allowing import from other regions. The UK release came on September 12, 2011. The collection is linked to the later Looney Tunes Platinum Collection on Blu-ray, which began in 2011, and the Volume 6 trailer was a forerunner to that line. The set features voice work by Mel Blanc among others.
