List of international cricket centuries by Joe Root
Joe Root is an English cricketer and former England Test captain, often described as England’s most complete batsman. He has played 163 Test matches, 189 ODIs and 32 T20Is, scoring 41 Test centuries and 20 ODI centuries as of January 2026.
Root made his Test debut in December 2012 and hit his first Test century in 2013 against New Zealand. In July 2013, he became the youngest English player to score an Ashes century at Lord’s with 180, earning man of the match as England won. The 2013 season also earned him Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year in 2014. He followed with three more centuries that year, including a double century (200 not out) against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. His highest Test score is 262 versus Pakistan in October 2024, which also made him England’s leading run-scorer in Test cricket, overtaking Alastair Cook. He was the first player to score a double century in his 100th Test, making 218 against India in Chennai in February 2021.
Root’s ODI career began with a century in 2014 against the West Indies, and he eventually tallied 20 ODI centuries, the most by any English player. His highest ODI score is 166 not out against the West Indies in June 2025. He has scored centuries against eight different opponents. In T20Is, he has played 32 matches but has not yet scored a century, with his best being 90 not out against Australia in August 2013. As of January 2026, Root has centuries against seven of the eleven other Test nations and ranks sixth on the all-time list for most international centuries.
