List of chief ministers of Southern Province

Chief Minister of the Southern Province, Sri Lanka: The chief minister heads the province’s board of ministers and advises the governor, who leads the provincial government. The governor appoints the chief minister from Southern Provincial Council members who have the council’s majority support. The office began on 3 February 1988, with M. S. Amarasiri as the first holder. The post has been vacant since 26 April 2019. It has been associated with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the United National Party; Shan Wijayalal De Silva is listed by some sources as the current chief minister.
