John F. Kennedy International Airport has seen many aviation accidents and incidents. One major case was Egyptair Flight 990, a Boeing 767-300ER, which crashed about 200 miles east of JFK after taking off for Cairo, Egypt, killing all 217 people on board. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) led the investigation with help from the FBI and Egypt’s Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA). The NTSB concluded that the crash happened after the plane left cruising altitude and plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, caused by deliberate inputs by the first officer. In contrast, the ECAA’s final report blamed a mechanical malfunction in the elevator. Both sides disputed the conclusions.
