Characters in The Mysterious Cities of Gold (original and the 2012 series)

Esteban: An orphan rescued at sea by the Spanish navigator Mendoza. He wears one of the sun medallions and loves adventure, though he is impulsive and afraid of heights. In Barcelona, locals think he is the “Child of the Sun” and lift him up to call out to the sun. He joins the Spaniards in their search for the Seven Cities of Gold, hoping to find his father. A friend of his father in China hints that Esteban is a descendant of Atlantis, enemies of Mu (the sunken Mu empire).

Zia: The daughter of an Incan high priest. She was kidnapped from Peru by Spanish invaders and given to the Queen of Spain. She meets Esteban when Governor Pizarro takes her to read the golden quipu. She wears a sun medallion like Esteban’s, with an interlocking sun and moon.

Tao: The last living descendant of Mu (also called Hiva). He lived alone on the Galápagos Islands after his father’s death. At first he is wary of the others, but he joins them on their journey when the Solaris is revealed.

There are many other secondary characters the main trio meets on their journey across the Americas and Asia.
