Lisa Mangum
Lisa Mangum is an American author and editor best known for her young adult romance trilogy that begins with The Hourglass Door. She has worked as an editor at Deseret Book since 1997 and became the editorial manager at Shadow Mountain in 2014. Mangum also edits anthologies for WordFire Press and writes short fiction and nonfiction.
Her books have earned multiple awards. The Hourglass Door (2009) and The Golden Spiral (2010) won Foreword Reviews INDIES in the Best Young Adult Fiction category, while The Forgotten Locket (2011) was nominated in the same category. After Hello (2012) won the Whitney Award for Best Young Adult General Novel, and Mangum herself received a Whitney Award in 2019 for outstanding achievement.
Mangum studied English at the University of Utah, graduating with honors, and worked at Waldenbooks during college. Her mother, who was also a writer and editor, inspired her to pursue a career in editing. After graduation, she became an assistant editor at Bookcraft, which Deseret Book bought in 1999; Mangum has worked there ever since. She has edited books by authors such as Brandon Mull, Ally Condie, and Jason F. Wright.
In addition to her novels, Mangum published a short story, “Sold Out,” in the charity anthology The Gruff Variations (2012). Her stand-alone novel After Hello appeared in 2012, and she released One Horn to Rule Them All, a WordFire Press anthology, in 2014. She serves as Editorial Manager at Shadow Mountain and lives in Taylorsville, Utah with her husband, Tracy. She is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
