Leusden is a town and municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. It sits about 3 kilometers southeast of Amersfoort. The western side has forests and hills, while the eastern part is farmland in the Gelderse Vallei. The municipality includes four villages and several small hamlets.

Leusden has a long history. It was first mentioned in the year 777 as Villa Lisiduna. The church tower in Oud-Leusden is very old, dating back to at least the 11th century. Near Leusden lies the site of the old Heiligenberg monastery, started around the year 1000. In the 1970s two villages, Leusbroek and Hamersveld, grew together to form the town now called Leusden. In 1924 Leusden hosted the first Pinksterlanddagen, a gathering for anarchist youth.

Today Leusden has three main shopping areas: De Hamershof in the town center (about 90 shops, near the town hall, opened in 1980 and renovated in 2018); De Biezenkamp, north of Hamershof (around 20 shops, with a weekly market on Tuesdays and new apartments built since 2016); and De Zuidhoek in Leusden-Zuid (opened in 2012 for the new Tabaksteeg neighborhood).

Facts: about 30,000 people live in Leusden. The area is about 59 square kilometers in total, with a small amount of water and a few meters of elevation above sea level.
