Language (Porter Robinson song)
Language is a 2012 song by American electronic music producer and DJ Porter Robinson. It first appeared on YouTube on April 1, 2012, and was released as a digital download in the United States on April 10, 2012 through Big Beat Records. In the United Kingdom, it was released as part of an EP from the Ministry of Sound on August 12, 2012, and it reached number 9 on the UK Singles Chart. The track features uncredited vocals by Heather Bright and has been remixed by Kayzo with Gammer and by Jauz.
Robinson had earlier success with the 2010 track “Say My Name.” After catching Skrillex’s attention, he signed with Skrillex’s Owsla label in 2011 and released the debut Spitfire EP, the label’s first release. While his early work was known for heavy electro and complextro, “Language” marked a shift toward melody, with a more melodic, trance-like feel and lush synths.
A music video for “Language” was released on August 1, 2012. It shows a girl running from wolf-like creatures and meeting a giant creature; the video has millions of views. Many fans see the song as one of Robinson’s best-known tracks, and it helped inspire ideas for his 2014 debut album Worlds. The track runs about 6 minutes (with a 3:19 UK radio edit) and was released on Big Beat in the US and Ministry of Sound in the UK.
