Lambda 10 Project
The Lambda 10 Project is a national resource about LGBT issues in American fraternities and sororities. It aims to raise visibility for LGBTQ Greek members and provide educational materials about sexuality and Greek life. It began in the 1990s when Shane Windmeyer, then at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, started speaking about LGBTQ topics in Greek life. In 1995 he founded The Lambda 10 Project at Indiana University Bloomington, where it is housed in the Office of Student Ethics and Anti-harassment Programs and overseen by a steering committee. The project is part of Campus Pride, a national nonprofit. It provides a directory of speakers, lists LGBT Greek-life online forums, and collects articles, websites, and news stories. In collaboration with Alyson Publications, Lambda 10 published four anthologies about gay and bisexual students in Greek life, edited for Windmeyer. Out on Fraternity Row (1998) was the first book to explore the intersection of sexual identity and fraternity life, highlighting both homophobia and acceptance in Greek life.
