King Fahd's Fountain
King Fahd's Fountain, also known as the Jeddah Fountain, is in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is the world's tallest fountain. Donated by King Fahd bin Abdulaziz, it was built from 1980 to 1983 and began operating in 1985. It shoots seawater from the Red Sea up to about 312 meters (1,024 feet), with a speed of about 233 mph (375 km/h) and can lift over 16 tonnes of water into the air. The base is shaped like a mabkhara, a traditional Arabian incense burner. Water is filtered before pumping to protect the system since it uses seawater. About 500 LED lights illuminate it at night, making it visible across Jeddah. Guinness World Records lists it as the highest fountain in the world. The second-tallest fountain is in Seoul, South Korea.
