Keith Dowman, born in 1945, is an English teacher and translator of Tibetan Buddhism, especially Dzogchen. In 1966 he travelled to India and Nepal, practicing Kriya Yoga with Ganesh Baba and vipassana with Anagarika Munindra. He then connected with Tibetan Buddhism and trained under many masters, including his root teachers Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje (Dudjom Rinpoche) and Kangyur Rinpoche, Longchen Yeshe Dorje. He lived near them in Darjeeling for several years and studied Classical Tibetan at Queens College, Sanskrit University in Varanasi, under Lama Jamspal.

In 1973, at the Nyingma Institute in Berkeley, his translations were first published with the support of Tarthang Tulku, while he taught Tibetan language at Sonoma State University. Dowman has written many books and translations on Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan culture, and travel, with a focus on Vajrayana and Dzogchen. In his later work he has emphasized Dzogchen and the writings of the 14th-century Nyingma master Longchenpa. Since 1993 he has been teaching and leading retreats on Vajrayana and Dzogchen around the world.
