Kazakhstan in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Kazakhstan has participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest five times, from 2018 to 2022. The participating broadcaster was Khabar Agency (KA), an associate member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). As an associate member, KA cannot apply to participate on its own and needs an invitation from the contest organizers.
Best result: two 2nd places in 2019 and 2020.
Year-by-year results
- 2018 Minsk: Daneliya Tuleshova – Ózińe sen — 6th place with 171 points
- 2019 Gliwice: Yerzhan Maksim – Armanyńnan qalma — 2nd place with 227 points
- 2020 Warsaw: Karakat Bashanova – Forever — 2nd place with 152 points
- 2021 Paris: Alinur Khamzin and Beknur Zhanibekuly – Ertegı älemı (Fairy World) — 8th place with 121 points
- 2022 Yerevan: David Charlin – Jer-Ana (Mother Earth) — 15th place with 47 points
Withdrawals and future participation
- 6 June 2023: KA said they would not participate in Junior Eurovision 2023 in Nice, but hoped to return in 2024.
- 22 August 2024: KA confirmed they would not return in 2024 due to financial constraints and a later show start time.
- 12 June 2025: KA confirmed non-participation for the third year in a row, to focus on the regular Eurovision Song Contest.
- 29 November 2025: Kazakh Ministry announced discussions with the EBU about a debut in the senior contest in early 2026.
- 15 January 2026: EBU’s Martin Green said Kazakhstan would not be invited to Eurovision 2026 because the application deadline had passed. As of January 2026, KA had not announced a return to the Junior Contest.
National selections
- Kazakhstan used the Balalar Eurokörünīsı national selection format in 2018, 2020 and 2021.
- In 2019 and 2022, songs were internally selected.
- In 2022, the Baqytty-bala contest selected its representative.
