Barings LLC is a global investment management firm owned by Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) and part of MassMutual Financial Group. It has more than 2,000 employees and 34 offices worldwide. Barings serves institutional, insurance, and intermediary clients, aiming to deliver extra returns across public and private markets by investing in fixed income, real assets, and capital solutions. As of December 31, 2025, Barings manages over $481 billion in assets.

History:
- Founded in London in 1762 as merchants and bankers.
- Asset management started in 1955; expanded internationally in the 1970s.
- In 1989, all asset management activities were consolidated under Baring Asset Management Limited.
- In 1995, Barings Bank collapsed due to unauthorized trading by Nick Leeson and was bought by ING Group for £1.
- In March 2005, MassMutual acquired Baring Asset Management’s investment management business and the right to use the Baring Asset Management name; Northern Trust acquired Baring Asset Management’s Financial Services Group.
- In September 2016, MassMutual merged Babson Capital Management, Wood Creek Capital Management, Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers, and Baring Asset Management to form Barings.
