Joseph L. Stone House
The Joseph L. Stone House is a historic home and carriage barn in Newton, Massachusetts, at 77 and 85 Temple Street. Built in 1881 by banker Joseph L. Stone, the house is two-and-a-half stories tall. The first floor is brick, with the upper floors in a wood frame, and the front has three sections: a projecting left wing with a gabled roof, a rounded two-story tower on the right capped by an octagonal roof, and a recessed second-floor porch between them, topped by a gabled dormer. The walls are covered with decorative shingles, and the porch and porte-cochère are highly detailed. The carriage barn at 85 Temple Street was built to match the house and has a similar style; it has since been converted into a residence. The pair were listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 4, 1986.
