Josef Ackermann (journalist)
Josef Ackermann (31 January 1896 – 22 August 1959) was a German newspaper journalist. He began as contributing editor of the Weißenburger Tagblatt in 1917 and later worked for the Telegraphen-Union in Munich. He served as permanent Landtag rapporteur for the Münchner Zeitung and the Bayerische Staatszeitung. During the Nazi era he was imprisoned in Stadelheim Prison and in the concentration camps Dachau, Buchenwald and Dora-Mittelbau. After World War II he became director of Munich's municipal intelligence service and was a correspondent for Die Welt. From 1948 to 1951 he led the Association of Professional Journalists in Bavaria. In April 1945 he founded and became chief editor of Münchner Stadtanzeiger. He was a member of the Bavarian Senate from 1950 to 1955, and served on the executive board of the Deutscher Journalisten-Verband and as a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft kommunaler Presseamtsleiter. The street Ackermannstraße in Munich was named after him in 1960.
