José Ángel Antelo
José Ángel Antelo Paredes (born May 7, 1987) is a Spanish politician for Vox and a retired professional basketball player. He was born in Santiago de Compostela and trained in Real Madrid’s youth system. He played as a power forward, spending most of his career in Spain’s second division (LEB Oro) with teams such as Cáceres, Zaragoza, Bilbao Basket, L’Hospitalet, Tenerife, Fuenlabrada, León, Cáceres CdB, and Murcia. He had two seasons in Spain’s top league (ACB) with Bilbao Basket and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada. He was named the best national player of the 2011–12 LEB Oro season with Cáceres Patrimonio de la Humanidad, and later joined UCAM Murcia in the ACB. He retired from professional basketball on March 27, 2019, after seven years with Murcia and after suffering several injuries.
Internationally, Antelo represented Spain in youth competitions, winning the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship in 2004 and the Albert Schweitzer Tournament the same year.
In politics, Antelo joined the Vox party’s Murcian regional branch in April 2019. In December 2019 he was named president of the party’s caretaker committee in Murcia after changes in regional leadership. Following the 2023 Murcian regional elections, he was appointed vice president in the third government of Fernando López Miras.
