Jonny Evans is a Northern Irish former professional footballer and current first-team coach at Manchester United. Born in Belfast on 3 January 1988, he came through Manchester United’s academy, had loan spells at Royal Antwerp and Sunderland, and made his United debut in 2007. He became a regular defender for United, winning 11 trophies including three Premier League titles, two League Cups and the Champions League.

He left United in 2015 to join West Bromwich Albion, then moved to Leicester City in 2018, where he captained the team and won the FA Cup in 2021. After Leicester were relegated in 2023, Evans returned to Manchester United on a short-term deal, then signed a one-year contract and helped the club win the FA Cup again in 2024. He retired from professional football in May 2025 and moved into coaching and youth development at United.

Internationally, Evans earned 107 caps for Northern Ireland from 2006 to 2024, scoring six goals. He played at Euro 2016, captained the side, and helped Northern Ireland reach the tournament’s knockout stage for the first time. He retired from international football in August 2024.

Off the pitch, Evans comes from a footballing family; his brother Corry also plays for Northern Ireland. He attended Belfast High School and Ashton-on-Mersey, and he was awarded the MBE in 2023 for services to football in Northern Ireland.
