Jonah Tolchin
Jonah Tolchin is an American singer‑songwriter from New Jersey who blends blues, indie folk, folk rock, and alt‑country. He sings and plays guitar and has released music on Yep Roc Records.
As a teenager, Tolchin played in a band called Uncle Fran’s Breakfast. At 15, the legendary guitarist Ronnie Earl heard him play, invited him to lunch, and asked him to perform onstage—an early moment of validation. He released his first full‑length album, Criminal Man, independently in 2012, and he performed at the Newport Folk Festival that same year.
Tolchin joined Yep Roc Records in 2014 and released Clover Lane, followed by Thousand Mile Night in 2016. Clover Lane grew out of a New Jersey street name—Tolchin’s family had lived on Clover Lane—and was made in Nashville with producer Marvin Etzioni. The album was praised for its mix of traditional folk and blues with a modern edge.
In 2018 he released The Grateful Song (Thanksgiving) and in 2019 put out a track called Drift Away. His fourth album, Fires for the Cold, came out September 13, 2019, on Yep Roc. It reached several Billboard charts and features guest appearances by Jackson Browne and Rickie Lee Jones. Critics have praised Tolchin for his mature voice and songs that feel both timeless and fresh.
