Johnson Spring Formation
The Johnson Spring Formation is a geologic formation in the Inyo Mountains, California, United States. It contains fossils from the Ordovician period and is part of the Eureka Group. The formation lies above the Ely Springs Dolomite and below the Barrel Spring Formation, and it is about 114 to 398 feet (35 to 121 meters) thick. The type section is in Lead Canyon Trail in the Independence quadrangle, Inyo Mountains. It was named by Harold Richard Pestana in 1960; previously, it was described as the undifferentiated upper part of the Eureka Group.
