John Robert Leslie (1831–1 January 1881) was an Irish academic who spent his entire career at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). He served as Erasmus Smith's Professor of Natural and Experimental Philosophy from 1870 to 1881.

Born near Timoleague, County Cork, he was the son of Rev John Leslie and Elizabeth Travers. His father died in 1838 when he was young. He attended Drogheda Grammar School and entered Trinity College Dublin on 1 July 1847 at age 16. He earned a BA in 1852, an MA in 1856, and a DD in 1862, and was elected a Fellow in 1858.
