John Newcomer (Maryland politician)
John Newcomer (December 18, 1797 – April 21, 1861) was an American politician and farmer from Maryland. He represented Washington County in the Maryland Senate from 1840 to 1846. He also served as sheriff of Washington County (1836–1839) and as a county commissioner in 1846 and 1859. He was a delegate to the Maryland constitutional convention of 1850.
Born December 18, 1797, to Henry Newcomer, he became a large landowner in Washington County, ran his farm, and operated a mill at Beaver Creek. He founded Newcomer & Stonebraker, a flour and grain commission firm in Baltimore.
Newcomer married his cousin Catherine Newcomer, daughter of Samuel Newcomer, and they had a son, Benjamin Franklin Newcomer. He died on April 21, 1861, at age 63.
