John J. Sawtelle (June 18, 1894 – September 29, 1985) was an American political figure from Boston who served on the Massachusetts Governor's Council for the Fourth District from 1943 to 1947.

Born in Boston's South End, Sawtelle attended Boston Public Schools and Dorchester High School. After his father died, he began working at age 15, selling newspapers, clerking at a grocery store, and ushering at Symphony Hall. He later joined the clothing business as a store clerk and worked his way up to vice president and sales manager for Chauncy Clothing, a major clerical clothing supplier in the Northeast.

In 1945, Sawtelle voted against confirming William Arthur Reilly as Chairman of the Metropolitan District Commission. That year, he also ran for Mayor of Boston and finished fourth with about 5% of the vote, behind James Michael Curley, John E. Kerrigan, and Reilly.

Sawtelle died on September 29, 1985, in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
