John Dye (cricketer)
John Cooper James Dye (born 24 July 1942) is a former English professional cricketer. Born in Gillingham, Kent, he was a tall left-arm fast-medium bowler who could bowl with pace and stay accurate.
Dye started his professional career with Kent, playing from 1962 to 1971. He helped Kent win the 1970 County Championship and played in the 1971 Gillette Cup final. After leaving Kent, he joined Northamptonshire, where he played from 1972 to 1977 and won the 1976 Gillette Cup. He also spent a season with Eastern Province in South Africa (1972/73) and later played Minor Counties cricket for Bedfordshire (1978–79).
In total, Dye appeared in more than 400 senior matches and took nearly 1,000 wickets. He began coaching in 1966 and worked in schools in South Africa before becoming coach at Wellingborough School from 1983 to 2002. After retiring from playing, he moved to Spain and coached at the La Manga Club in Murcia. As of 2017, he remained involved in developing cricket in Spain and served as chairman of the East Coast and Central League.
