Joe Riley (footballer, born 1928)
Joe Riley (6 March 1928 – 1983) was an English amateur footballer who played as a forward. Born in Stockton-on-Tees, he played non-league football for Stockton before joining Darlington. In the 1949–50 season he made eight league appearances for Darlington, scoring two goals, usually at inside left or centre forward. He started seven Third Division North games early in the season, making his debut on 3 September 1949 at Doncaster Rovers, scoring in his second appearance against Bradford City, and again in his sixth against Mansfield Town; his eighth and final appearance came in December 1949. In October 1949 he was selected for an Army XI to play Aston Villa. He died in 1983 in Cleveland, England.
