Jocky Sitkanpai
Jocky Sitkanpai, born Phudta Naree on May 14, 1954, is a retired Thai Muay Thai fighter from Khon Kaen. He fought mainly in the super featherweight division and was known for powerful knees and a fearless style.
He began Muay Thai with his older brother, fighting early under the name Jocky Sing Sortor in Khon Kaen. In 1971 he went to Bangkok to fight for the Sor.For.Yor gym as Jocky Aor Wattana. He beat many rising contenders, but a later disqualification in a match against Petchmongkon Lerkchai led to a temporary suspension. The gym changed its name to Sitkanpai Gym, and he became known as Jocky Sitkanpai.
From 1974 to 1977 he was one of Bangkok’s top fighters, defeating champions such as Samersing Tianhiran, Khunponnoi Kiatsuriya, Nongkhai Sor.Prapatsorn, Pudpadnoi Worawut Sagat Petchyindee, and Padejsuk Pitsanurachan. He won the Thailand Bantamweight title in 1974 and the Rajadamnern Stadium Bantamweight title in 1975. At his peak he earned very large purses, over 100,000 baht.
He represented Muay Thai in international events, including Muay Thai vs Karate bouts. In 1977 he knocked out Lindsay Ferguson, an American karateka, in a match that drew a gate of over 1.1 million baht. He also participated in Lumpinee Stadium’s first two-on-one bout, teaming with Jitti Muangkhonkaen against Posai Sitiboonlert, though they lost by decision.
The Sor.For.Yor-Sitkanpai gym owner Somat Hong Sakoun renamed the gym “Jocky Gym” to honor him, and it became home to many champions in later years. After retiring, Jocky returned to Khon Kaen and worked in his family’s sugar cane business.
