Jim Asbell
Jim Asbell, nicknamed "Big Train," was an American baseball outfielder who played for the Chicago Cubs in 1938. He was born June 22, 1914, in Dallas, Texas, and died July 6, 1967, in San Mateo, California. He batted and threw right-handed.
After college at Tulane and Rice, Asbell signed with the New York Giants. He spent time in the minor leagues before the Cubs took him in the 1937 Rule 5 draft. He made his major league debut on May 8, 1938, and played 17 games that season, 10 in the outfield. He did not commit an error in the field but hit only .182 (6-for-33) with two doubles and three RBIs, and he had no stolen bases. His last major league game was on October 2, 1938, and he did not appear in the World Series.
