Japanese submarine Yu 6
Yu 6 was a Japanese Army transport submarine of the Yu I type, built by Hitachi Kasado Works in Kudamatsu, Japan. It carried supplies or troops to island garrisons and had no torpedoes. The submarine was about 41 meters long and displaced around 300 tons on the surface. It could carry about 24 tons of freight or up to 40 troops, with a crew of about 23. It used two Hesselman engines and could reach roughly 10 knots on the surface and 4 knots submerged. Its weapons included a small 37 mm gun and several light machine guns for defense. Yu 6 operated mainly in Japanese waters, including missions from Shimoda to Hachijō-jima in 1945, and was assigned to Detachment 2, Transport Submarine Group, in February 1945. After Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945, Yu 6 surrendered to the Allies and was later scuttled or scrapped.
