Vazhve Mayam
Vazhve Mayam, meaning Life is an illusion, is a 1970 Malayalam drama film. It was directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan and written by Thoppil Bhasi, adapted from the novel by P. Ayyaneth. The film stars Sathyan and Sheela, with a supporting cast that includes Sankaradi, K. P. Ummer, Bahadoor, Adoor Bhasi, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Khadeeja, N. Govindan Kutty, Muthukulam Raghavan Pillai, C. A. Balan, Kuttan Pillai and Philomina. Sankaradi won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor for his performance.
It was shot at Arunachalam Studios and Revathi Studios. The music is by G. Devarajan with lyrics by Vayalar Ramavarma. Produced by M. O. Joseph for Manjilas Films, it was released on 14 November 1970 and runs for 153 minutes.
Vazhve Mayam was a major box-office success. It was remade in Telugu as Edadugula Bandham (1985) and in Hindi as Aap Ki Kasam (1974). The film was also shown at the Sathyan retrospective of the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram.
