The Japanese Horse of the Year is the top honor for Japan’s best thoroughbred racehorse. It is awarded every year by the Japan Racing Association (JRA). Since 1987 it has been part of the JRA Awards. The award began in 1954 as part of the Keishū Sha Awards and from 1972 it has been included in the Yūshun Awards. Some horses have won the award more than once.
