Jan Novák (composer)
Jan Novák (8 April 1921, Nová Říše – 17 November 1984, Neu Ulm) was a Czech composer of classical music. He was most active in the 1960s and wrote music for several Czech films, including works by director Karel Kachyňa. He also composed music for animated films by Jiří Trnka and Karel Zeman, two leading figures in Czech animation. In 1982 he scored the TV film Wir, based on Yevgeny Zamyatin’s novel We. Novák was also a contemporary Latin poet, writing under the pen name Ianus Novak. In 1970 he won magna laus at the Amsterdam Latin poetry competition, the Certamen poeticum Hoeufftianum.
