Jamil Azzaoui
Jamil Azzaoui, known simply as Jamil, is a Canadian comedian, guitarist, and talent agent of Moroccan origin living in Montreal. He is well known in France and other French-speaking countries.
Born on May 17, 1961 in Montreal, he grew up with a Moroccan Muslim father and a Québécoise Catholic mother. He spent parts of his childhood in Egypt, France, and Morocco before returning to Canada to study at Promédia in Montreal.
In 1981 he began working as a morning radio host at CIBL-FM and later at CINQ-FM. He married singer Catherine Karnas in 1985; they later divorced. Through his company Pépé Inc, he became an agent for many artists and released his own recordings. His album Pitié pour les femmes was a big success, followed by Pitie pour les bums. His song "Un signe de toi" appeared on the charts at several stations, including Rythme FM. He also released other humorous songs such as "Pitié pour les femmes," "Fuck, faut qu'tu changes," and "C'est pas moi ça."
In 2005 he performed about 100 shows in 18 months across Quebec, including appearances at Les FrancoFolies de Montréal and the Lion d'or in Montreal. In 2008 his show "Pitié pour les femmes" was staged at the Olympia theatre in Montreal. He has collaborated with many artists on joint projects.
In 2019, Jamil was a Green Party candidate in Laurier–Sainte-Marie for the federal election.
