James Cairns (forward)
James Cairns was a Scottish footballer who played as an inside right for several English clubs in the late 1890s, including Lincoln City and Newton Heath. He was born in Ardrossan, Scotland, and began his career with Stevenston Thistle in 1895, then moved to Glossop North End. In September 1897 he joined Lincoln City, but before he played a league game for them he moved to Newton Heath in April 1898. Cairns finally made his Newton Heath debut, as inside right, on 8 October 1898 in a 2–1 home win over Burslem Port Vale. That turned out to be his only appearance for Newton Heath, and he joined Berry's Association in November 1898 before retiring from football.
