Jalal al-Awqati
Jalal al-Awqati (died 8 February 1963) was an Iraqi communist military officer and Brigadier General who served as the chief of the Iraqi Air Force during the final days of Abd al-Karim Qasim's government. He was assassinated in the early hours of 8 February 1963 during the Ramadan Revolution. After his death, tank units moved to seize the Abu Ghraib radio station. He was a popular and respected figure at the time, and many Iraqis spoke of him with the phrase: "Jalal Al-Awqati, our coming leader."
