Jagdstaffel 54
Jagdstaffel 54 (Jasta 54) was a German fighter squadron in World War I. “Jagdstaffel” means a hunting or fighter squadron. Jasta 54 scored more than 20 aerial victories, including four observation balloons. Three pilots were killed and one was injured in an accident.
The unit was formed on January 1, 1918, at Flieger-Abteilung 6 in Großenhain, Kingdom of Saxony, and became operational on January 15. On January 19 it joined Jagdgruppe 10 as part of the 2nd Army. Its first victories came on March 17, 1918. In late March it moved to support the 4th Army. On June 6 it returned to the 2nd Army and joined Jagdgruppe 9. On July 10 it shifted to support the 3rd Army. In August 1918, Jagdgruppe 9 moved to the 18th Army, and Jasta 54 served there through the end of the war.
