Jab Murray
Jab Murray, born Richard John Murray on October 28, 1892, in Oconto, Wisconsin, was an American football lineman in the early NFL. He played for the Green Bay Packers (1921–1922, 1923–1924) and the Racine Legion (1922) after starring at Marquette University. Murray was 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighed 219 pounds, and he played multiple positions, including end, center, guard, and tackle.
After his football career, Murray also played baseball in Minot, North Dakota. He was admitted to the bar in 1920 and practiced law in Marinette, Wisconsin. He served the city in public roles for many years, including as mayor for nine terms (18 years), as city attorney, district attorney, and as a member of the county board of supervisors for over two decades.
Murray died in Marinette, Wisconsin, in late April 1958. He was survived by his wife, Marie Cleary Murray, and their son, Richard Murray.
