March 712
The March 712 and its variant, the 712M, were open‑wheel Formula 2 racing cars built by March in 1971. They used 1.6‑liter, naturally aspirated four‑cylinder engines: Ford-Cosworth FVA or BMW M12/7.
The cars were very successful. Ronnie Peterson won the 1971 European F2 Championship in a Cosworth‑powered 712, with five race wins, six podiums, seven pole positions and five fastest laps, totaling 54 points. Dieter Quester finished third that season in a BMW-powered 712, with 31 points. Notable drivers included James Hunt and Derek Bell. A sister Formula B version, the March 71B (and 71BM), used a related chassis. Debut: 1971.
