Imagine (Snoop Dogg song)
Imagine is a hip-hop song by Snoop Dogg featuring Dr. Dre and D’Angelo from the 2006 album Tha Blue Carpet Treatment. It was released on November 21, 2006, runs 4 minutes 42 seconds, and appeared on Geffen. The track was written by Calvin Broadus (Snoop Dogg), Andre Young (Dr. Dre), and Mark Batson, with production by Dr. Dre and Mark Batson.
The song was originally supposed to be on Busta Rhymes’ The Big Bang, but the sample needed for it couldn’t be cleared in time, so it ended up on Snoop Dogg’s album. A version with Kam that was played at the TBCT Listening Party differs from the album version. Busta Rhymes later released a remix that may be the original version that didn’t appear on his album.
Dr. Dre played a major role on the album, producing several tracks and rapping on Imagine, marking one of his notable Snoop collaborations since 2000.
In Imagine, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre invite listeners to imagine a world without hip-hop, giving examples of things that wouldn’t exist without the genre. Dr. Dre suggests that Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G. might not have been killed if they hadn’t been part of hip-hop, and D’Angelo provides the chorus.
