Ibrahim Spinzada
Ibrahim Spinzada is an Afghan politician who was closely connected to President Hamid Karzai. He has been described as Karzai's protégé and brother-in-law, and he held several government roles during Karzai's presidency. In 2004 the Los Angeles Times called him Karzai's brother-in-law. In 2010 the Congressional Research Service also described him as Karzai's brother-in-law and noted he was the first deputy adviser on Afghanistan's National Security Council. In June 2010 he was named interim director of the National Directorate of Security (NDS). In March 2012 he traveled to Guantanamo Bay to negotiate with the five Taliban leaders held there. Al Jazeera described him as an associate of Mohammed Ali Salehi, who the network reported helped move funds illegally out of Afghanistan.
