IGoodbye
iGoodbye is the series finale of iCarly. It aired as an hour-long Nickelodeon special on November 23, 2012, and guest-starred David Chisum as Colonel Steven Shay, Carly and Spencer’s father. It marks the end of the original series, with a revival on Paramount+ that premiered on June 17, 2021.
Plot
- Carly hoped her father would come to Seattle for the Father-Daughter Air Force Dance, but she gets a message saying he can’t come. Spencer offers to take her, but he suddenly gets sick after a sneeze from Lewbert the doorman.
- Sam tries to arrange escorts for Carly with Freddie and Gibby, but Carly declines.
- Colonel Shay arrives and escorts Carly to the dance. Afterward, he must return to Italy and asks Carly to come with him; with encouragement from Spencer and friends, she decides to go.
- Meanwhile, Spencer works on restoring a 1964 Sterling motorcycle for his friend Socko to give to Ryder, with Sam helping. Plans change when Socko and Ryder fight, so the bike won’t be given away. Spencer decides Sam should have the motorcycle, and she happily accepts.
- Carly and Sam host a final webcast with Colonel Shay as a guest, announcing that iCarly will be on hiatus. Carly and Freddie share a kiss before she leaves, and Sam gives Carly the remote as a keepsake. On the flight to Italy, Carly watches a montage of past webcasts as everyone remembers the show. The episode ends with Freddie’s famous closing line, “And… we’re clear.”
Reception
- The A.V. Club said the finale covered the show’s core ideas and provided closure, though the first half was slow; the final webshow moment was touching and funny.
- Newsday described it as mainly for fans and noted it set up spin-offs for the cast.
- The episode drew about 6.4 million viewers in the U.S., the best ratings for Nickelodeon in November 2012, with strong UK viewership as well.
