DENM, whose real name is Mac Montgomery, is an American bedroom pop and reggae musician, songwriter, and producer from Santa Barbara, California. He started making music young and taught himself guitar at 14 to mimic parts of Led Zeppelin II. He used to play in the band FMLYBND, which has been on hiatus since 2015. In 2016 he started releasing music as DENM, a name he felt was unique. His debut single “Lit” came out on May 19, 2016, and his Dreamhouse EP followed on August 26, 2016.

In 2020, DENM signed a licensing deal with Ineffable Records. He released the single “My Wave” on November 13, 2020, followed by “Fallin” and “Califas” (the latter featuring Jared Watson of Dirty Heads) in early 2021. The Califas EP arrived on April 16, 2021, adding the track “Blow It Up.” His debut studio album, Slum Beach Denny, was released on May 14, 2021 and includes all the Califas EP songs plus guest appearances from Casey Veggies, GDSN, Darnell Williams, and more.

DENM spent late 2022 to 2023 on tour with Boostive and Jakob Nowell, and he performed on Iration’s Daytrippin Tour in the summer of 2024, which also featured Pepper and Artikal Sound System. His musical influences include Bob Marley, Chris Cornell, Bradley Nowell of Sublime, Jimi Hendrix, Lenny Kravitz, and Kendrick Lamar.

Personal life: DENM was born in San Diego and lived there until he was 14, then moved to Santa Barbara to live with his mother after some trouble and was kicked out at 16. He married young and has four children. The Montgomery family now lives in Southern California.
