Hou Fengqi
Hou Fengqi (born March 1962) is a former Chinese politician who spent most of his career in Inner Mongolia, especially in Bayannur and Wuhai. He served as Mayor of Wuhai from January 2009 to May 2013 and then as Communist Party Secretary of Wuhai from May 2013 to November 2015.
Born in Fugu County, Shaanxi, he studied at Baotou Junior Normal College and later at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, graduating in 1991. After graduation, he worked in the Propaganda Department of CHINADA Inner Mongolia. He then held various local roles, including vice-mayor of Linhe, deputy secretary-general of Bayannur, CCP Secretary of Linhe District, executive vice-mayor of Bayannur, and CCP Deputy Secretary of Wuhai before becoming the city’s party secretary.
In November 2015, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced that he was under investigation for serious violations of discipline and he was removed from his posts for corruption. In October 2017, he was sentenced to 17 years in prison for taking bribes and possessing a large amount of property from an unidentified source. His wife Yang Xiu’e received a three-year sentence. His superior Bai Xiangqun was investigated in 2018.
