Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant
The Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant is in Donggang Town, Wafangdian, near Dalian in Liaoning Province, China. It is owned and operated by Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Company Ltd., a joint venture of China Power Investment Corporation, China General Nuclear Power Group, and Dalian Construction Investment Group.
The plant has six reactors. Phase I features four CPR-1000 reactors. Phase II adds two ACPR-1000 reactors that include enhanced safety features such as a core catcher and double containment. The total capacity is about 6,710 MW gross (roughly 6,366 MW net), with each unit around 1,061 MW.
Construction began on August 18, 2007. The first concrete was poured in 2007, and Phase II groundwork started in July 2010. Unit 1 was connected to the grid on February 17, 2013 and began commercial operation in June 2013. Unit 2 followed on November 23, 2013. Unit 3 was commissioned in March 2015, and Unit 4 in April 2016. Units 5 and 6 started in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The plant reached full capacity on June 24, 2022.
